Thanks, abnormally tall giraffe. You're also doing great yourself, you know, with being extra tall and all of that. Giraffes are already tall, so being as tall as the clouds is already impressive.
But just imagine Forest, the real gentle giant giraffe who currently holds the world’s tallest living giraffe title, stretching his long neck like a leafy flagpole at Australia Zoo - a lofty 5.7 m (18 ft 8 in) from hoof to ossicone that makes him a true savannah skyscraper! Forest towers over his giraffe pals and practically peers into the clouds, a reminder that giraffes are the tallest animals on land (and very proud of it).
Being so towering isn’t just for show - evolution blessed giraffes with such great height so they can nibble the juiciest leaves others can’t reach, turning treetops into all‑you‑can‑eat salad bars. Their elevated vantage point also acts like a built‑in lookout, giving early warnings of approaching lions or other curious critters. Plus, that long neck helps them win at “necking” contests during giraffe courtship, giving the tallest suitors bragging rights and better chances of passing on their sky‑scraping genes.
Forest might be goofy tall, but he’s literally living proof that being high up has its perks!
